Printable Letter Height Guide
This one-page letter height guide is for anyone planning readable signs, stencils, or display lettering. It shows the minimum letter height for different viewing distances in a two-column chart: viewing distance and rule-of-thumb letter height. Sample rows include 10 ft (3 m) to 1 in (2.5 cm), 25 ft (7.5 m) to 2.5 in (6.5 cm), and 50 ft (15 m) to 5 in (13 cm). It also notes the simple reading rule of about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of distance, with bold, high-contrast letters readable from farther away.
